What is Spear Phishing?

Agari's former VP of Channel Marketing, Mandeep Khera, discusses why traditional security controls cannot stop modern spear phishing attacks.

Spear phishing is a very specific type of phishing, which is really targeted at specific individuals in an organization. It could be (the) finance department, it could be HR, it could be any function within a company, and the idea is to attract that specific person to take an action, and usually, the email comes from a trusted sender.

Traditional security products like secure email gateways, a lot of them cannot stop those types of attacks because these are identity deception-based attacks, so you can't just use the traditional filters. That's where Agari comes in. Using behavioral analytics and artificial intelligence and various other tools and techniques, we're able to stop identity deception-based attacks dead cold and stop all the phishing attacks.
